----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not as pro-rescue as I used to be This is pretty sad. A video of animals who are still missing after Hurricane Katrina. If you went down there to help and brought animals back to your organization, shelter or home, you have our everlasting gratitude. But if you failed to do anything to find the owners, you shouldn't consider yourself a rescuer. It's true that in the early days and months, most evacuees did not have access to a computer and could not start searching for their pets on Petfinder, but you could have worked the case from your end, especially if an animal was found in a home. There were ways of finding people using the internet and help on the ground. Thanks to information on various websites, Buster's owners were found and he is now with them in Iowa. Thanks to the work of Stealth Volunteers, Justin's owner was located and he is now with her in Texas. And, if you "adopted" a Katrina animal, and the owners later asked for their pets to be returned, (this means you, Pam Bondi), I hope you did the right thing and gave them back. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
